For the second time this week, the Arizona Cardinals have landed a castoff from the Atlanta Falcons defense as they signed linebacker Brooks Reed to a one-year, $2 million contract according to Ian Rapoport of

The 31-year-old Reed, originally a second-round pick by the Houston Texans out of the University of Arizona in 2011, has been a semi-regular starter for the Falcons the past four seasons but never made much impact.  He played in all 16 games in 2018, recording one sack, one forced fumble and 24 tackles.  Reed was released from the Falcons two days ago.

That signing comes less than 48 hours after the Cardinals also signed former Falcons cornerback Robert Alford, who was also cut by the Falcons this week.  The Falcons would seem to be a strange source to mine defensive talent from given their ineptitude on that side of the ball in 2018.  That ineptitude almost cost head coach Dan Quinn his job and did end in the firing of both coordinators and most of the defensive coaching staff.  The Cardinals, however, badly need depth on both sides of the ball and are moving quickly to acquire it under new head coach Kliff Kingsbury.  Reed will hopefully provide some pass-rushing depth and veteran leadership.
