The New York Giants have signed veteran free agent wide receiver Golden Tate to a four-year, $37.5 million contract according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

So are the Giants tanking and rebuilding or not?  Does anyone in that building know?  Schefter reports the deal includes $23.5 million "fully guaranteed" for a receiver over the age of 30 when the team just traded a far more talented albeit mercurial receiver who is five years younger.  And you have to wonder if the almost universal scorn heaped on GM Dave Gettleman after the Odell Beckham trade spurred the team to make this move to try to change the conversation.

That said, the Giants certainly needed to add some depth to their receiving corps after the trade and Tate seems to still have plenty of juice left and is from all reports and outstanding teammate.  2018 was his worst season since becoming a full-time stater in 2012 but much of that could be attributed to being dealt from the Lions to the Eagles at the trade deadline and having to fit into a new offense on the fly.  He is a great possession receiver for a team that seems to be going all-in on a short pass/run offense, dictated mainly by the fact that 38-year-old Eli Manning can no longer thrown anything else.
