Running back Duke Johnson was not present for the first session of OTA's, but a league source told Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer that he plans to participate, at least to some degree.

Johnson asked to be traded last month, and his decision not to attend the voluntary sessions — including the extra minicamp last month — has been a statement of his desire to want to play elsewhere now that the Browns have signed Kareem Hunt.

But the Browns have said since the NFL combine in February that Johnson will have an integral role on the team this season.

“Duke is under contract,’’ Freddie Kitchens said April 27. “I’ve said this for like a month now, I don’t know where all this trade talk started happening. People just assumed that we are going to trade him because we signed another good football player. Me, personally, I like good football players and I like as many of them as we can get.

“Duke Johnson is on this football team, Duke Johnson will have a vital role in this football team and Duke Johnson will help us win football games. Am I surprised that he’s still here? No, not one bit. I haven’t wavered and never said anything different other than that.”
