The cocaine possession charge against New England Patriots safety Patrick Chung have been "resolved" according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The prosecuting attorney of Belknap County, New Hampshire announced the resolution Monday afternoon. The charge stems from an arrest in late July and the PA indicated  Chung’s lack of a prior criminal record, his cooperation with the police and the relatively small amount of cocaine found when police responded to an alarm at Chung’s house were all factors in the decision to not seek any jail time.

The terms of his settlement indicate he'll have to remain of good behavior for a period of two years, submit to periodic drug testing and perform 40 hours of community service.  The 32-year-old Chung will now await word of what discipline the league office will impose but a suspension seems likely.

Chung may also await word of his fate with the Patriots.  Chung has started 122 games with the Patriots since they drafted him in the second round back in 2009 and was an every-down player once again in 2019.  He signed a one-year extension in April that keeps him under contract through 2020 but that was before the arrest.  While there is no indication that he has fallen out of favor with the organization, head coach Bill Belichick is well-known for cutting veterans loose sooner rather than later if he senses their level of play is starting to slip.
