According to multiple reports, Bill Belichick and Nick Caserio have agreed to a multi-year extension to keep the director of player personnel in Foxborough, Christopher Mason of Masslive reports. The Boston Globe’s Ben Volin was first to report it, while MMQB’s Albert Breer was quick to confirm it was multiple years.

One of the most enigmatic executives in the league, Caserio has been with the Patriots since 2001. A crucial voice in player evaluations, he’s also moonlighted as a scout team quarterback.

The Texans tried to poach Caserio last offseason, but after New England filed tampering charges, they were quick to call off their pursuit.

Last November, Bill Belichick tried to explain Caserio’s (rather unique) role.

“He’s coached multiple positions, had multiple responsibilities in the personnel department,” Belichick began. "Continues to have a strong role in both areas, and sometimes it’s maybe a little more or a little less in one area or another to offset expanded duties on the other side. He’s also involved in a lot of contract things. So, it’s a pretty full plate. Sometimes it gets divided differently, but it’s usually full and sometimes spilling over the edge a little bit. But, he does a great job in all those areas and has been extremely valuable to me on so many levels for such a long time."
