Steelers RB James Conner injures ankle, iffy for Week 2

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday that the team will "leave the light on" for running back James Conner in Week 2 according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

Conner spent much of Monday night's victory over the New York Giants watching from the sidelines with an ankle injury while backup Benny Snell Jr. ran for more than 100 yards against the Giants' mediocre run defense.  And Conner was not all that effective on the team's three opening drives before leaving with the injury, garnering six rushes for only nine yards and two catches for eight yards.

Tomlin insisted that he doesn't have any "long-term concerns" about Conner's durability and is not ruling out Conner suiting up against the Denver Broncos this coming Sunday.  Conner is expected to fight back and be utilized as the team's bell-cow when healthy — 'when' being the key word.  The 25-year-old had a spectacular 2018 campaign while serving as the Steelers' lead back during Le'Veon Bell's season-long holdout, compiling almost 1500 yards of total offense and 12 touchdowns in 13 games, but has had trouble staying healthy with that bell-cow workload.  Snell should be a hot name on the waiver wire this week but fantasy owners should exercise caution, both because of Tomlin's commitment to Conner and because the Steelers lost offensive linemen Zach Banner and Stephen Wisnieski with season-ending injuries Monday night.
