Giants hosting Tennessee QB Hendon Hooker for pre-draft visit

The New York Giants have scheduled a pre-draft visit with Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

Hooker has made a spate of visits over the past couple of weeks, including to the Giants' NFC East rivals the Washington Commanders, but this one is a bit of a head-scratcher considering that the team signed Daniel Jones to a hefty long-term contract this offseason.  The organization apparently wants to do its due diligence in case Daniel Jones regresses in 2023.

Hooker seems to have one of the widest range of outcomes in the upcoming draft of any player, especially at the quarterback position.  He had a great 2022 season at Tennessee and was considered a leading Heisman candidate before tearing his ACL late in the season.  But his ACL rehab and the fact that he is already 25 years old and probably will not be ready to play until 2024 make him a risky choice.  Some pundits project him as a surprise first-round pick for a team like the Vikings, who could let him sit and learn from Kirk Cousins for a year or even two.  Other mock drafts have him falling to the second or even third round.  Teams like the Giants or Commanders might be willing to pull the trigger if he does slide to Day 2.
