One training camp battle in Tampa Bay has been settled. On Monday the Bucs waived placekicker Rodrigo Blankenship. As it stands Chase McLaughlin is the lone kicker on the Bucs roster.
Blankenship and McLaughlin have been competing to succeed kicker Ryan Succop who the team released in March. They signed McLaughlin in March as an unrestricted free agent and Blankenship mid-June. The two alternated kicks in the first two preseason games.
Blankenship made a 35-yard field goal in the second quarter of the second preseason game, but he also missed two other kicks entirely from 55 yards and 32 yards out. He also missed quite a few kicks in training camp.
