Another former NFL head coach has reportedly thrownhis hat into the ring to become the new defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys according to Josina Anderson of CBS Sports.
Current ESPN personality Rex Ryan has interviewed for the job. Former Commanders head coach Ron Rivera, former Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer, and Cowboys defensive line coach Aden Durde are the other candidates that have been identified for the job.
Ryan took the Jets to two AFC Championship Games while going 46-50 over six seasons with the team and he was 15-16 as the Bills’ head coach before being fired ahead of the final game of the 2016 season. Before getting the Jets job, Ryan spent four years as the Ravens’ defensive coordinator. He has a reputation for putting strong defensive units on the field at all of his NFL stops.
That said, given that Ryan has been out of the league since 2016, he should be considered a longshot for a spot on Mike McCarthy's staff in Dallas.
