The Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to terms with cornerback C.J. Gardner-Johnson on a three-year contract according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
Pelissero reports the deal is worth “up to” $33 million. CJGJ, of course, spent 2022 in Philadelphia and picked off a league-leading six passes while the team made a Super Bowl appearance. He signed with the Lions in 2023 but a torn pectoral suffered in Week 2 limited him to three regular-season games, although he did return for the postseason. Now he is returning home for an Eagles defense, particularly on the back end, fell apart down the stretch last season.
There has always been an element of hot and cold to Gardner-Johnson’s game — he’s not guaranteed to be a part of the solution — but he is a play-maker. It’s a worthy gamble for a team that needs to make a few.
