The Colts have brought back yet another one of their free agents, Nate Atkins of the Indianapolis Star reports.

Ronnie Harrison Jr. is returning to Indianapolis on a one-year deal, a source confirmed to IndyStar.

The Colts found Harrison with no offers last summer, despite being just 26 and having started 45 games at strong safety. The only other opportunity he had at the time was an offer to try out for the Ravens.

Indianapolis posed a bold idea to Harrison, to move to WILL linebacker, which plays similarly to strong safety in defensive coordinator Gus Bradley's system but would cut down on the range Harrison would need to play with.

Harrison made that transition late in training camp and spent months on the practice squad gaining reps. But he became a starter once the Colts decided to move on from Shaquille Leonard at midseason, and he wound up becoming an important versatile piece during a playoff push. Harrison started games at linebacker and strong safety, when he needed to fill in for an injured Julian Blackmon. He finished with 20 tackles and some splash plays, such as two interceptions, a sack and a defensive score.

"I've just been blessed this whole year, getting picked up by the Colts in the offseason, being at home all year, getting a shot to come in on the practice squad to prove myself. I feel like I did that," Harrison said in January. "To be able to elevate and play and help make a difference toward the playoffs is everything I could have dreamed of."
