The Texans are re-signing veteran defensive end Derek Barnett to a one-year contract after he excelled in the final stretch of last season for the AFC South champions, Aaron Wilson of KPRC in Houston reports.  This per a league source.

Barnett, 27, is a former Philadelphia Eagles first-round draft pick from Tennessee acquired off waivers last season. He played in six games with four starts and recorded 2 1/2 sacks, 19 tackles, eight tackles for losses and 11 quarterback hits.

In the playoffs, he played in two games with one start and had one more sack and seven tackles, two quarterback hits and two tackles for losses.
