The Jets have agreed to trade quarterback Zach Wilson to the Denver Broncos according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.

Denver will send New York a sixth-round pick, No. 203, in exchange for Wilson and a seventh-round pick, No. 256. The Jets will also pay some of Wilson’s salary. He’s due to make $5.5 million in 2024.

The 24-year-old has not been attending the Jets offseason program after requesting a trade.

Few would argue that Wilson desperately needs a change of scenery.  The former No.2-overall pick has played in 34 games (with 33 starts) in three seasons, completing only 57 percent of his throws and posting 23 touchdowns to 25 interceptions.  2023 was supposed to be a learning season for Wilson after the team traded for future Hall-of-Famer Aaron Rodgers, but he was forced into action when Rodgers tore his Achilles after only four offensive snaps.  Wilson went on to start 11 games for the Jets but endured several public benchings.

Wilson now joins a quarterbacks room that includes Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci. The Broncos also have the No. 12 overall pick in this week’s draft and could add another QB to the mix.  Broncos head coach Sean Payton has been considered a quarterback whisperer during his coaching career but Wilson presents as a daunting reclamation project.
