The Washington Commanders hae signed veteran defensive tackle Taylor Stallworth, who worked out for the team last week, Bryan Manning of USA Today's Commanders Wire reports. In a corresponding move, the Commanders released third-year cornerback Christian Holmes. The 26-year-old Holmes was a seventh-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft and played in 30 games in his first two seasons for Washington.
Holmes excelled on special teams. He played in 70% of Washington’s special teams snaps in 2022 and 77% last season. He started two games at cornerback during his rookie season. He’s the second former Ron Rivera draft pick to be released over the past week, following wide receiver Dax Milne.
Stallworth, who turns 29 in two weeks, was signed to give Washington more interior depth. He entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2018 with the New Orleans Saints. In his six-year career, Stallworth has had stints with the Saints, Colts, Chiefs, Texans, Panthers, Titans and 49ers. He has appeared in 57 games with two starts. Stallworth has 52 career tackles and 4.5 sacks.
