Those who may be hoping for a coaching change with the Chicago Bears after the 2024 season may have some bad news. A recent report from Adam Rank of NFL Network and The Sick Podcast, suggested that he has heard that the Bears, currently led by head coach Matt Eberflus, could keep him despite the current state of the team and his track record, Mike Pendleton of Bears Wire reports.

In the three years that Eberflus has coached the team, he has a 14-28 record in 42 games, with an 3-18 record on the road. His most successful season was last year in 2023, where the Bears went 7-10 and coming into 2024, they had the first and ninth overall picks in the 2024 NFL draft, which they used to select quarterback Caleb Williams and wide receiver Rome Odunze.

With the roster makeover and additions to the Bears coming into the 2024 season, the Bears have at times seemed to give fans optimism, only to quickly take it all back as they show plenty of dysfunction. As the calls for Eberflus to get fired grow louder, on the latest episode of his podcast, Rank says he’s heard that the coach’s time may not be over in Chicago after this season.

“There’s a possibility that Matt Eberflus actually has a five year contract, and that he might be more locked in," Rank said. "I’ve talked to some people within NFL circles, people who are close to [General Manager] Ryan Poles and they indicated to me that regardless of what happens at all, Matt Eberflus is coming back regardless.”

That does not bode well for the crowd that is hoping the Bears make a big splash this offseason to upgrade their coaching staff. Many have called for the team to aggressively pursue Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson to be the team’s next head coach. But if this report from Rank is any indication, it appears Eberflus could be sticking around.
