Following the firing of Shane Waldron and promoting Thomas Brown to offensive coordinator, Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus met with the media on Wednesday and discussed the status of the team moving forward. One of the biggest talking points moving forward is the status of rookie quarterback Caleb Williams and his role throughout the remaining half of his first season in the NFL, Mike Pendleton of Bears Wire reports.

While addressing the media on Wednesday afternoon, Eberflus was asked not only if Williams would be the starter this week against their bitter rival Green Bay Packers, but also his status for the rest of the season. Swiftly confirming that Williams will start this week, but was a bit hesitant and non-committal to that being the case for the rest of the season.

Rumors had been circulating that the team could be considering benching Williams in favor of second-year backup Tyson Bagent, but that will not be the case just yet. Eberflus called the process of the starting quarterback position one that is "week-to-week" moving forward for the rest of the season.

It's a far cry from a ringing endorsement for Williams, who has struggled over the course of the team's three-game losing streak. But if Brown can get the offense on track, it would likely put these conversations to rest and Williams will stay in his role.
