After racking up nearly 30 sacks over the past three seasons for the Detroit Lions, free agent defensive end Cliff Avril is primed to score a big contract this offseason, Justin Rogers of Mlive reports.
Avril has never hidden the fact he'd prefer to stay in Detroit, but he's not exactly offering a hometown discount to facilitate a deal.
"I don't know. It depends on the situation, honestly," Avril said in an interview with 'Pro Football Talk' on NBC Sports. "It depends on why I would be taking less money, first off. I don't know, but we just have to get the numbers going and we'll see. I really don't know if I would take less right now."
Asked to put a percentage on being in a Lions uniform next season, Avril cautiously said 50-50, admitting he really has no idea.
"I don't know right now. We're waiting to see what's going to go down. We have a little less than a month to try to figure some things out. Hopefully, we get it done."
