New England Patriots veteran running back James White has still not been cleared for football activities and could start the season on the PUP list according to Mike Reiss of ESPN.

White is trying to come back from a hip injury that ended his 2021 season after only three games.  He was not a full participant in either OTAs this spring or the team's mandatory June minicamp.  because of this, Reiss left White's name off his most recent projection of the 53-man roster to open the season.  Damien Harris, Rhamondre Stevenson, fourth-round pick Pierre Strong Jr., and sixth-round pick Kevin Harris are the backs that Reiss projects to be on the initial Patriots roster.

If White does start the season on PUP, he has to remain on it for six weeks before he can be promoted to the active roster.  A fixture in the New England running game ever since joining the team as a fourth-round pick out of Wisconsin in 2014, the change-of-pace back is now 30 years old and could be winding down a solid career that has always been more valuable in the real football world than in fantasy.
