Cincinnati Bengals tight end Drew Sample needs knee surgery and will be out "several months" according to Lance McAlister of 700WLW.

Sample went down in the Week 2 loss to the Cowboys and was seen weating a knee brace and using a crutch after the game.  The team originally thought they were dealing with a sprain that would not require surgery but instead may lose Sample for the season.  A second-round pick out of Washington in 2019, the 26-year-old was credited with a start in both games this season but is used primarily as a blocker.  Given the already shaky protection in Cincy for Joe Burrow, his absence will definitely be felt.

Tight end Hayden Hurst will now likely become an every-down player.
