The Kansas City Chiefs are hoping second-year running back Isiah Pacheco can return "midway through camp" according to Nate Taylor of The Athletic.

Pacheco suffered a torn labrum and a broken bone in his hand as a rookie. He played through the issues but ultimately need surgery for both after the season. He is still recovering and isn't expected to be ready for the start of training camp in July.  A seventh-round rookie out of Rutgers, Pacheco started the 2022 season buried on the depth chart behind Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Jerik McKinnon but gradually took over the main early-down role and was the Chiefs No.1 running back throughout the playoffs and Super Bowl.  He ended his rookie season with 830 rushing yards, 130 receiving yards, and five touchdowns in 17 games.

In his absence, Taylor highlighted UDFA rookie Deneric Prince as a name to know during minicamp. Prince will see most of his run on special teams as a rookie but could take on a larger role if Pacheco's recovery is delayed. He will be vying for kick return duties during training camp but should see plenty of reps as a running back in the Chiefs' preseason outings.
