Things haven't gone great for Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis to start the 2024 NFL season, but they haven't been have-to-change-your-identity bad.
Levis had to change his phone number, Nick Suss of The Tennessean reports.
"I guess the thing I’m actually doing today is getting a new phone number," Levis said to media Wednesday. "I don’t know how my number got out there to the fans, but I got a lot of texts ... So, yeah. It sucks the world is the way that it is and I’m looking forward to having some privacy."
Levis has received plenty of scrutiny and is shouldering a lot of the blame for the Titans' slow start. Five turnovers in two games wouldn't look great in any context, but Levis' repeated unforced mistakes have only furthered the case against him by his detractors.
Not that Levis is seeing any of this. The phone number situation is one thing, but Levis said he hasn't been on social media in months and does his best to avoid hearing what people are saying about him on TV or in the media. The messaging he's focused on is coming from his coaches and teammates.
"I think one of the important things we talked about today as a team and as a group is just having confidence regardless of the seeming disparity of the situation or moment," Levis said. "We’ve got to come out here whether we’re 2-0 or 0-2, 15-0 or 0-15, with the same attitude, same confidence knowing that we’re going to go out there and beat the breaks off of whoever we play. To have that confidence as a team, and we’re building toward that, it’s great seeing guys come out here on a Wednesday after a tough loss like that with the intensity and focus that we did."
