The Texans traded reserve running back Cam Akers and a conditional 2026 seventh-round draft pick to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for a 2026 conditional sixth-round draft pick, Aaron Wilson of KPRC reports per a league source.

A former Los Angeles Rams second-round draft pick, Akers’ role had decreased with the healthy return of starter Joe Mixon and backup Dameon Pierce against the New England Patriots from injuries.

Signed to a one-year minimum contract after a successful workout in July, the Mississippi native and former top-ranked high school running back in the nation =, Akers has rushed for 147 yards and one touchdown on 40 carries. He has 1,728 career rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. He has started two of five games played this season and has caught four passes for 16 yards and one score.

Akers had an opportunity to rejoin the Vikings during the summer, but chose the Texans after recovering from two torn Achilles tendons, one suffered last season in Minnesota.
