Patriots coach Jerod Mayo did not hold back with his postgame criticism of the team’s performance following a 32-16 loss to the Jaguars on Sunday, Khari A. Thompson of The Boston Globe reports.

“A disappointing game,” Mayo said. “We came out and we started fast. What I would say is: Look, we’re a soft football team across the board.

“You talk about what makes a tough football team,” he added. “That’s being able to run the ball, that’s being able to stop the run, and that’s being able to cover kicks. We did none of those today.”

The Patriots gave up 171 or more rushing yards for the third consecutive week. Jacksonville’s Parker Washington scored on a 96-yard punt return. Quarterback Drake Maye tied for the Patriots’ lead in rushing yards with 18 on three carries.

Maye agreed with Mayo’s assessment of the team.

“Coach Mayo is not going to come in here and say something to us that he hasn’t said in the locker room,” Maye said. “I think we’re not tough. He always preaches being tough. He preached it today … I think he does a great job of relaying the message to us and guys know.”

“Jon Jones gave a speech after the game saying you’ve got to find it, you know, you’ve got to find something and know that what we’re doing is not good enough. We’ve got to man up.”
