Quarterback Derek Carr is feared to have suffered a fracture in his left, non-throwing hand Sunday, Luke Johnson of NOLA reports. This according to an NFL Network report.
Carr suffered the injury late in the fourth quarter of the New Orleans Saints win against the New York Giants when trying to dive for the first down marker near the sideline.
At the end of the play, Carr leapt into the air and his lower body collided with teammate Kevin Austin. That meant the full force of Carr's fall was directed onto his left hand, which he used to break his fall.
Saints coach Darren Rizzi said after the game that Carr needed imaging done on his hand before the team knew the full extent of the damage. Carr was also evaluated for a concussion.
“He made a phenomenal effort on his part to try to keep our drive going and get a first down there," Rizzi said. "He’s just an unselfish player, diving over the top.”
