The Jacksonville Jaguars are among the teams in play for Detroit Lions’ defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn to be their next head coach, Paul Bretl of Jaguars Wire reports. This according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
“You mentioned a couple of potential landing spots for Aaron Glenn. Sounds like the Jaguars are very much in play as well,” Rapoport said. “I’m not going to say he is going to have his choice of places, but he is certainly going to have options among the Saints, the Jets, and the Jaguars.”
It’s not news that Glenn has drawn real interest from the Saints and Jets, but the Jaguars being in the mix is a new development.
Glenn has been the Detroit defensive coordinator since the 2021 season. This year, in particular, despite the Lions dealing with a number of key injuries on the defensive side of the ball, Glenn’s unit continues to operate at a high level, which includes finishing the regular season ranked top-10 in points per game allowed.
“Here’s the one thing that I would say about myself, I’m a coach,” said Glenn. “I just happen to be on defense. I understand the offense just as well as a number of people. So if you wanna hire me, you’re going to hire a coach, you aren’t going to hire a defensive coach. I’m going to talk to the offense just as much as I’m going to talk to the defense.”
Quarterback Trevor Lawrence was recently asked what he wants in a head coach, and while, admittedly, he said he’s partial to an offensive play-caller given his position, more than that he wants a leader and culture setter.
