Aaron Glenn has left the Jets, for now, without a deal

Aaron Glenn left his Tuesday meeting with the New York Jets without a deal in hand to become their new head coach, John Sigler of Saints Wire reports. And neither did Lance Newmark, the Washington Commanders executive interviewing to become their new general manager. They worked together on the Detroit Lions and popular perception has been that they could be a package deal in New York, which would add an appeal to the job Glenn couldn’t find on the New Orleans Saints.

But this has happened before. As SNY Jets beat reporter Connor Hughes observed, former head coach Robert Saleh left the Jets without a deal too. Like Glenn, he had a second interview scheduled with another team (the Philadelphia Eagles), but his agent worked out an agreement with the Jets and he never spoke to another team before being introduced to Jets media.

Hughes added that the Jets have begun telling other candidates for the head coach and general manager positions that the team will be going in another direction, and that they “are under the belief that Aaron Glenn and Lance Newmark will be named the team’s next HC, GM.” Things could swerve unexpectedly at the last minute, but it’s not looking good.
