Report: 'Hard to imagine' Taysom Hill returning to the Saints in 2025

Taysom Hill's Saints career might be coming to an end, John Sigler of Saints Wire reports.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports the Saints have a decision coming on Taysom Hill, hard to imagine he’d be back on the Saints in New Orleans.”

Hill has been one of the few bright spots on the Saints offense in recent years, but he’s also one of the oldest players on the team and is recovering from a serious knee injury. He’ll be 35 when the 2025 season starts in September, making him just a little younger than Moore himself (who turns 37 in July). You’d think if Moore wants to bring the “Tush Push” power play his Eagles ran so well to New Orleans that Hill would be the perfect player for it. But then there’s the contract to consider.

Hill has a salary cap hit of about $18 million this season, which trails only Derek Carr (more than $51.4 million) and Cameron Jordan (almost $20.1 million) on the team. And because the Saints restructured his contract so many times before, reducing that number isn’t easy. They would save only $277,000 by trading or cutting him right now. Releasing him with a post-June 1 designation would save $10 million but they can only use two of those tags, which means something else would have to be done with Carr or Jordan, if their time is up. Our solution in a mock scenario where Carr and Jordan were both let go was to hold onto Hill and explore a trade or release in June, but working around his $18 million cap hit wasn’t easy.

Moving on from Hill would be painful; he’s a fan-favorite for good reason. He ranks 13th in franchise history for career rushing yards (2,437) and 5th in touchdown runs (33). His contributions as a receiver aren’t as notable (99 catches for 943 yards and 11 touchdown receptions) but the fact he’s been able to make a positive impact as a rusher, receiver, and passer (ranking 17th in passing yards and 20th in touchdown passes) is impressive. Let’s not forget he blocks and throws his weight around on special teams, too.
