New Orleans Saints head coach Kellen Moore was introduced in his first press conference on Thursday, and one of the questions he was pressed on centered around the team’s starting quarterback. Is Derek Carr going to remain under center now that Moore is going to be calling plays through the headset?
Moore was asked twice about whether he could commit to Carr as the team’s Week 1 starter, but he didn’t take the bait either time. He repeatedly described Carr as a “tremendous quarterback” who deserves to start in the NFL, John Sigler of Saints Wire reports.
“I have so much respect for him and the journey that he’s been on,” Moore said. “Really excited to team up with him and go through this process.”
When asked what that process entails, Moore replied that it’s all about meeting with players and building the team. So any decision on whether Carr will remain the team’s starter for 2025 (and beyond) will wait until they’re able to sit down and have a conversation together.
