The Carolina Panthers made a much-needed addition to their backfield on Wednesday, Anthony Rizzuti of Panthers Wire reports.

As first reported by Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer, the team has come to terms on a one-year deal with former Dallas Cowboys running back Rico Dowdle. Per Joe Person of The Athletic, the agreement has a base salary of $2.75 million and can be worth up to $6.25 million.

An Asheville, N.C. native, Dowdle played his collegiate ball at the University of South Carolina from 2016 to 2019. He'd then enter the league as an undrafted free agent with Dallas in 2020.

Dowdle has gone on to rush for 1,464 yards and four touchdowns over his four-year career. 1,079 of those yards came this past season, with 149 of those (a career-high) coming against the Panthers back in Week 15.
