Are the Patriots reportedly getting closer to landing a proven playmaker for Drake Maye?
The Patriots are currently hosting free-agent receiver Stefon Diggs in hopes of signing the 31-year-old wideout to a contract, Conor Ryan of the Boston Globe reports. This according to The Athletic’s Chad Graff.
Diggs’ value has taken a hit after suffering a torn ACL in October with the Houston Texans. But before that injury, Diggs had long-established himself as one of the top playmakers in the NFL, earning two All-Pro nods and posting six consecutive 1,000-yard seasons before last year’s injury.
According to Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald, the Patriots “will want to gather information on Diggs’ medicals as he recovers from a torn ACL” before potentially agreeing to a contract.
Even if Diggs may not be the same star talent he was during his prime years with the Vikings and Bills, he’d immediately vault himself to the top of New England’s depth chart at wide receiver this upcoming season — even if he may not be ready by Week 1.
Before suffering his knee injury with Houston, Diggs recorded 47 catches for 496 yards and three touchdowns over eight games.
