The Arizona Cardinals have added a guard to the team, someone who could potentially compete for the starting job at right guard, Jess Root of Cards Wire reports. They announced Friday that they signed former Green Bay Packers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers guard Royce Newman, as well as making official the signing of cornerback Jaylon Jones, whose addition we already posted about. Both were signed to one-year contracts.

Newman is a 6-foot-5, 310-pounder who was drafted in the fourth round by Green Bay in 2021. He started 16 games at right guard as a rookie and then started eight more in the next two seasons for a total of 21 starts at right guard, two at left guard and one at right tackle.

Last season, he played for the Bucs but only appeared in one game, logging three offensive snaps, after he was claimed off waivers following his release from the Packers before the season.
