The Miami Dolphins signed longtime New England Patriots long snapper Joe Cardona, Adam Stites of Dolphins Wire reports.

Cardona, 33, was drafted by the Patriots in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL draft after four years at Navy and had his Naval assignment delayed to allow his professional football career to begin. As of 2024, Cardona was serving as department head of Maritime Security Squadron 8, headquartered in Rhode Island.

After 10 seasons with the Patriots, Cardona was released by the team near the end of April after New England picked long snapper Julian Ashby in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL draft.

The Dolphins released veteran long snapper Blake Ferguson on Thursday after he missed 12 games during the 2024 season with a non-football illness. On Friday, the team signed undrafted rookie long snapper Kneeland Hibbett and brought in another undrafted rookie, Jacob Garcia, in on a tryout basis.
