Cincinnati Bengals Pro Bowl defensive end Trey Hendrickson showed up to the team facility and watched practice from the sidelines not in uniform on Tuesday.
Hendrickson’s appearance came a day after he publicly stated his displeasure with the franchise. The Bengals and Hendrickson have been at odds for the majority of the offseason due to contract negotiations.
He came to Cincinnati after a text exchange with head coach Zac Taylor in which Taylor told Hendrickson the team would fine him if he didn’t show up for mandatory minicamp in June. Hendrickson is under contract and is subject to fines if he doesn’t participate, Kelsey Conway of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
“A little bit transpired between me and Zac,” Hendrickson said. “We've tried to keep it as least amount as personal as possible, but at some point, in this process, it becomes personal.”
“I don't think it was necessary,” Hendrickson said of Taylor’s text. “I think we should have all hoped for the best until proven otherwise. Other things have transpired like the importance of me being here in OTAs doesn't seem to be respected. I think I've carried a lot of respect. I don't mean to insinuate anything about anyone's character, but that was disappointing. I think that was the word of the offseason.”
