Former NFL star and current FOX Sports analyst Charles Woodson is set to purchase 0.1% of the Cleveland Browns, Owen O'Connor of Browns Wire reports. This according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic.
The 0.1% stake in the Browns will come from Jimmy and Dee Haslam, the majority owners of Cleveland’s football franchise. The sale is contingent on Woodson agreeing to broadcasting restrictions similar to those imposed on Raiders owner Tom Brady, and on removing his name, image, and likeness from any businesses he is associated with.
Despite playing for the Oakland Raiders and Green Bay Packers, Woodson clearly still has love for his hometown. The Ohio native was born and raised in Fremont, Ohio, and was even named Ohio’s “Mr. Football” in 1994. He finished his stellar high school career with school records in rushing yards and points scored.
It’s also worth noting that Woodson will stop allowing his name, image, and likeness to be used on packaging for new bottles from his wine and whiskey businesses. This must be done to secure his Browns ownership stake, as it would otherwise violate the NFL’s alcohol policy.
