The San Francisco 49ers are nearing a multi-year extension with star linebacker Fred Warner, Matthew Washington of theScore reports. This according to NBC Sports Bay Area's Jennifer Lee Chan who cites sources.
Warner's new deal is expected to make him the league's highest-paid inside linebacker, Chan reports. The four-time first-team All-Pro defender had two years remaining on his five-year, $95-million extension signed in 2021.
San Francisco's front office has prioritized keeping its veteran core intact. Quarterback Brock Purdy signed a five-year, $265-million extension Friday. Tight end George Kittle agreed to terms on a four-year, $76.4-million contract in April.
Warner noted how different the 2025 season has become for the 49ers after Kittle and Purdy both received new deals.
"I think it's obviously worked out really well being able to knock those things out earlier," Warner said. "Allowing us to focus just purely on ball and getting better as a team, so things are moving in the right direction."
