Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin was absent for the start of the team’s voluntary OTAs according to Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post.

McLaurin was not present as the Commanders began their offseason training program. At this point, the workouts are voluntary, so his absence is not meaningful yet. However, it is important to note that the 29-year-old is entering the final season of his contract. Headed for a cap hit of $25.5 million this season with a base salary of $15.5 million, McLaurin will be looking for a long-term extension.

Earlier this offseason, Commanders general manager Adam Peters said the team hoped to give the veteran receiver a new deal. After reeling in a career-high 13 touchdowns last season as Jayden Daniels’ No. 1 target, McLaurin is not in holdout territory yet but his extension talks with the Commanders will be key to watch.
