Philadelphia Eagles Star Rookie Leaves Training Camp On Cart After Serious Injury

The Philadelphia Eagles saw a promising day at training camp take a troubling turn on Friday after rookie offensive lineman Jaeden Roberts suffered a serious leg injury.
Practice went great for most of the day. Head coach Nick Sirianni later said the defense won the session after making many big plays. The offense had good moments, too, but the team lost a solid backup player right near the end.
The injury happened during the final play of the developmental period. Reporters at practice quickly noticed medical staff rushing to Roberts, and a cart soon arrived on the field.
The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane shared an update on X shortly after the incident.
“Eagles rookie guard Jaeden Roberts suffered what appears to be a significant injury to his left leg. The cart is out. The injury occurred during the last play of the developmental period,” McLane wrote.
Roberts entered camp looking to earn a spot on Philadelphia’s roster after signing with the team as an undrafted free agent following the 2026 NFL Draft. The former Alabama guard impressed scouts during the NFL Combine, where he completed 25 bench press reps and ran a 5.31-second 40-yard dash.
Eagles Face Another Offensive Line Question
Roberts brought valuable depth to the Eagles’ offensive line. He spent last season at Alabama, where he started four games and appeared in 10 contests. He also dealt with injuries during his college career after entering the season as a preseason All-American candidate.
Philadelphia picked up Roberts and former Alabama linebacker Deontae Lawson as undrafted free agents after the draft. Roberts had been working with the third group of linemen during training camp and preseason preparations.

While Roberts was not set to start right away, his injury creates another issue for a group that already had backup worries. The Eagles spent part of the offseason fixing front line concerns after injuries hurt the group last year. The team also drafted rookies Markel Bell and Micah Morris in the 2026 NFL Draft to add real strength.
Now the Eagles might have to change plans as soon as possible. Coaches will likely give more chances to other young players as practice moves forward. The team could also explore outside options if it needs additional depth.
Some analysts and media members have suggested a reunion with former Eagles lineman Mekhi Becton, who played on Philadelphia’s 2024 Super Bowl team. General manager Howie Roseman has not made any move in that direction.
For now, the main concern stays on Roberts and how bad his injury is.
