Colts Agree To Part Ways With QB Anthony Richardson – One Team With “Mutual Interest” Quickly Emerges As Top Trade Candidate

Anthony Richardson’s time with the Indianapolis Colts has run its course.
An NFC North team is reported to have interest in trading for him, with the player also thought to be keen on the move.
The Colts made Daniel Jones their starting quarterback over Richardson last season, signalling a potential exit on the back of frustrating injury spells.
The team made Richardson the No. 4 overall pick in 2023, but his career never quite took off. They are reportedly planning to bring Jones back on a short-term deal, prompting the younger QB to seek playing time elsewhere.
According to NFL Network reporter Cameron Wolfe, Richardson and the Colts have agreed to part ways, and the team is allowing the player to seek a trade.
“Colts and Anthony Richardson have mutually agreed to seek a trade, sources tell me,” Wolfe reported on Thursday.“Indy met with Richardson’s agent this AM and they came to conclusion it was best for both sides to examine trade options. Fresh start coming for 2023 No.4 pick, Richardson.”
Wolfe added that the former Florida QB and the Minnesota Vikings have mutual interest.
“One team to keep an eye on trading for Anthony Richardson: Minnesota Vikings,” the reporter wrote in a subsequent post. “There is mutual interest. Combine is ideal time for these convos to happen.”
Vikings View Anthony Richardson As Perfect Backend Development Option

Vikings beat writer Alec Lewis also reports that the team liked Richardson coming out of the draft and views him as the perfect developmental project. Even so, they are prioritizing a signal-caller with more “experience, production, reliability and higher floor.”
The Colts have a fifth-year option to decide on in 2026 after signing the player to a four-year, $36.8 million contract in 2023.
As you would recall, Richardson’s rookie campaign was cut short by a shoulder injury. He underwent season-ending surgery after sustaining the injury in Week 5.
He played 11 games in 2024, following that up with just two appearances last season.
