Jaguars GM Trent Baalke told reporters Tuesday there is "mutual interest" between the team and veteran free agent tight end to sign a new deal this offseason according to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.com.

The No.23-overall pick in the 2017 draft out of Mississppi, Engram spent the first five seasons of his NFL career with the Giants but was plagued by injuries, ineffective quarterbacking, and drops.  He signed a one-year "prove-it deal" to come to Jacksonville and that move benefitted both Engram and the team's offense.   His 73 receptions and 766 receiving yards were both career highs, while his four touchdowns were his most since his rookie season and he was particularly effective in the last half of the season when the Jags rose from the ashes to claim the AFC South.  He also was able to play all 17 games plus was an asset in both of the Jags' playoff games.

The soon-to-be 29-year-old tight end is on the verge of a nice payday this offseason and should be one of the more coveted tight ends on the free agent market.  It makes all the sense in the world for him to continue his career in Jacksonville.
