The Las Vegas Raiders will move on from longtime starting quarterback Derek Carr. It’s simply a matter of when.

Carr was benched by the Raiders for the final two regular season games in favor of backup Jarrett Stidhan. The 31-year-old all but confirmed his looming departure with a goodbye message to Raiders fans on social media last month.

On Tuesday night, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler offered some interesting details on the Carr situation, Alex Hoegler ot Total Pro Sports reports.

According to Fowler, teams calling on Carr would prefer if he reworked his contract, though they don’t expect him to. One source heard from Fowler that they think a third-round draft choice would be enough to complete a deal, and that the New Orleans Saints are “believed to be only team engaged to extent of visit” thus far.

The Saints finished 7-10 last season and just missed out on the NFC South division crown, which was won by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a record of 8-9. But with Tom Brady now retired, the division is more wide open than ever before.

Carr had a frustrating final season with the Raiders, completing 60.8 percent of his pass attempts for 3,522 yards and 24 touchdowns against 14 interceptions. Carr came into 2022 having thrown for over 4,000 passing yards in each of the previous four years.
