The Detroit Lions revealed their new uniforms on Thursday, sporting a modern twist on the current kits while also paying homage to the franchise's past, Matthew Washington and Caio Miari of theScore report.

In addition to its traditional home and away jerseys, Detroit introduced the return of a black alternate jersey with a blue helmet. Among other noticeable changes is the updated number font, which has a new block visual similar to the Lions' uniforms in the 1980s and '90s. The team will also wear "Detroit" across their chest on the road for the first time in franchise history.

Detroit's on-field closet still has its traditional classic throwback uniforms that feature jerseys with a refreshed blue and classic numbers in silver with no outline. Those are paired with silver pants and the classic helmet. Starting in 2025, NFL teams will be allowed to use a third alternate helmet design.

The Lions officially unveiled their 2024 uniforms to season-ticket holders at Ford Field on Thursday evening.

The new kits, however, were spoiled by a leak on social media earlier in the day. The Lions were seemingly expecting it to be spoiled prior to Thursday's event, though, as the team shared a prerecorded video of defensive tackle Alim McNeill addressing the issue.

"Whoever released the uniform video, we appreciate it," McNeil said in the video. "We appreciate you for ruining all the hard work we put in."
