The Buffalo Bills have decided to take a flier on wide receiver Chase Claypool, signing the veteran to a one-year contract according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Claypool looked like a star his first two seasons as a second-round pick with the Steelers.  He caught 62 passes for 873 yards with nine touchdowns as a rookie — also rushing for two TDs. He then had 59 receptions for 860 yards with two TDs in 2021.

The Chicago Bears gave up a second-round pick for him in a mid-season trade in 2022 but he had little success there and his career has gone steeply downhill.  In 2023 he had four receptions over nine games for the Dolphins after playing his way out of Chicago.

.In both Miami and Chicago, Claypool reportedly had effort issues learning the playbook.

Heading into his age-26 season, Claypool will look to carve out a role in Buffalo’s wide receiver room, which will be led by some combination of Curtis Samuel, Khalil Shakir, and rookie Keon Coleman. It’s certainly possible Claypool doesn’t make the team this summer.
