Both tight end George Kittle and running back Matt Breida suffered shoulder injuries in Thursday night's preseason opener against the Dallas Cowboys and will be out "some time according to Matt Barrows of The Athletic.

Kittle came down hard on his shoulder while attempting a catch downfield and immediately walked over to the medical tent.  A fifth-round pick out of Iowa in 2017, Kittle showed a lot of promise during his rookie season with a 43/515/2 line and has the talent to be a difference-maker but health continues to be an issue.  Garrett Celek and Cole Hikutini are next up at tight end.  No timetable has yet been established for Kittle's return to action but he is listed as "week to week".

Like Kittle, Breida showed a lot of promise as a rookie in 2017 and was thus far having a strong training camp.  An undrafted free agent out of Georgia Southern, Breida played all 16 games last season and his talent shone bright enough as Carlos Hyde's change-of-pace back that the 49ers felt comfortable letting Hyde walk in free agency.  Thursday night he played three snaps before going down.  Jerick McKinnon was brought in as a free agent to be the 49ers' lead back but there will plenty of opportunity for Breida if he can bounce back quickly.    Raheem Mostert and Joe Williams are next up on the depth chart.
