In an update to our previous story, an MRI has unfortunately disclosed that second-round Washington Redskins rookie running back Derrius Guice suffered a tore ACL in Thursday night preseason opener against the New England Patriots according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.

Initial reports were optimistic that Guice only suffered a sprained MCL but the reality is much more brutal.  Assuming the usual recovery time, the 21-year-old former LSU Tiger will miss all of 2018.  It is a huge blow for both the rookie and the entire Redskins offense, who had hoped to improve on its pedestrian running game from 2017.  Second-year back Samaje Perine is now the favorite to earn the nod on early downs with "Fat Rob" Kelley as his backup and Chris Thompson as the third-down back.  None of these options, however, offer the upside of Guice.
