Sarkisian, Hackett "in the mix" for Lions OC job

FormerAtlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian and former Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett are both "in the mix" for the OC vacancy in Detroit according to Alex Marvez of SiriusXM NFL Radio.

Apparently Lions head coach Matt Patricia wants to double down on the unsuccessful "run first" edict he issued in 2018.  That philosophy produced a 6-10 record, last place in the NFC North, and along with a porous defense and some "questionable" coaching choices almost got Patricia canned after only one season.  Sarkisian might be a slightly better choice as he at least had a reputation for innovative offense as a college coach and had stretches of success the past two seasons with the Atlanta Falcons.  But his performance paled in comparison to Kyle Shanahan's work with the Falcons and the offense underachieved in 2018 considering the immense amount of offensive skills talent in Atlanta.

Hackett, Doug Marrone's long-time assistant who was fired in late November, oversaw a conservative, run-heavy offense in Jacksonville that was occasionally opened up whenever Leonard Fournette was hurt. Neither candidate would be an inspiring choice in Detroit.
