The Washington Redskins have not yet opened contract talks with impending free agent linebacker Preston Smith according to John Keim of ESPN.

The Redskins have made it known that they want to keep Smith but it is possible he prices himself out of Washington.  Originally a second-round pick out of Mississippi State in 2015, Smith has been a four-year starter at outside linebacker for the Redskins and has not yet missed a regular season game in his NFL career.  He did, however, take a step back in 2018 with his lowest sack total (four) since entering the league.  There will likely be no shortage of suitors for the 26-year-old if Washington lets him hit the open market.  The Redskins do have a potential replacement on the roster in 2017 second-rounder Ryan Anderson but would likely add another veteran if Smith does not re-sign with the team.
