Contract-year Jaguars defensive end Yannick Ngakoue is holding out of the team's mandatory minicamp this week according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

"I will not be attending minicamp as my contract has not been resolved," Ngakoue said in a statement. "I remain committed to Jacksonville, the fans and my teammates. My hope is to be with Jacksonville for years to come."  Originally a third-round pick out of the University of Maryland, in 2016, the 24-year-old Ngakoue is on the final year of a rookie deal that is set to pay him $834,269 in 2019.  That is chump change for a defensive player who, while not a true game-wrecker, has posted at least eight sacks in his first three years in the league.  According to Pro Football Focus, no edge rusher has more combined sacks and hits on the QB than Ngakoue over the past 2 years.

While Ngakoue is risking fines by holding out, he will undoubtedly make that money up and more with his next contract.  He has some leverage at this point and is likely looking for DeMarcus Lawrence-type money on his next deal.  And he will get it, either from the Jags or in free agency.
