Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield is determined to get the ball in the hands of his best playmaker Odell Beckham according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.com.

“I think people have this picture perfect thing where it was going to be sunshine and rainbows and he was going to have a whole lot of one on ones,” Mayfield told reporters on Wednesday. “It is Odell Beckham. He is going to have double coverage, and we have to find ways to format things to get him the ball and force feed him early on to where he can make an impact before we can have the perfect look to have a shot play. That is something we have learned the hard way, but I think as the weeks have gone on, we are continuing to improve on how to get the ball to him.”

Mayfield mentioned that double coverage has been an issue. Mayfield also noted his chemistry with Beckham is "continuing to improve."  Perhaps Mayfield should have mentioned his own accuracy issues and the overall poor design of the Browns offense.  Beckham already has more games without at least eight targets (4) in 2019 than he did in any single season with the Giants from 2014-2018. His average of 8.3 targets per game is easily a career low, as Eli Manning and company fed OBJ at least double-digit targets in every season from 2014-2018.

Mayfield's words were probably inspirational to Buffalo Bills cornerback Tre'Davious White, who is one of the best cover corners in the NFL and will likely be tasked with covering OBJ on Sunday.   White already has three interceptions this season and, given Mayfield's severe regression in his sophomore season, will likely add to that total against the Browns.  Giddy up.
