Dalvin Cook's tenure with the New York Jets is coming to an early end.  The veteran running back"s agents announced on Tuesday that their client and the team have mutually agreed to part ways according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Cook reportedly asked for his release as he is hoping to sign with a team going to the playoffs.  As part of the deal, Cook is restructuring his current deal and forfeiting all remaining guarantees.  He will be subject to waivers once his release from the Jets becomes official.

The Jets signed Cook to a one-year, $8 million contract this summer as insurance in case Breece Hall was not all the way back from his torn ACL.  Hall turned out to be in great shape, however, and Cook has just 67 carries for 214 yards and 15 catches for 78 yards this season.   That’s a big drop from the four straight 1,000-yard seasons that Cook posted with the Vikings before hitting the open market last offseason.

Cook seemed liked a shell of his former self in 2023 but, in his defense, he was trying to run behind a horrendous offensive line and agent defenses who were stacking the box and daring the Jets' woesome carousel of quarterbacks to throw the ball.  There are likely several playoff teams-one that comes to mind is the Ravens-that could use a player with Cook's resume over the next month.
