The Patriots are “in talks” to add former Giants coach Ben McAdoo, Chris Mason of Masslive reports. This according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer. McAdoo went 13-15 during his two seasons coaching in New York and most recently served as the Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator in 2022.
“He’s likely to play an assistant head coach type of role, and help OC Alex Van Pelt on that side of the ball,” Breer reported.
The 46-year-old has multiple Patriots connections from his time as an assistant in Green Bay, as he worked with Van Pelt for two years while Eliot Wolf served as the Packers director of pro personnel.
McAdoo made the playoffs during his first season coaching the Giants in 2016, but didn’t survive Year 2. After a 2-9 start, McAdoo opted to bench 36-year-old Eli Manning — and snap a 210-game iron man streak — to start Geno Smith. It’s a move that really hasn’t aged poorly, but infuriated the fan base, and he was fired in-season shortly after Smith’s lone start.
